Chennai Street Graphics

Posters play a vital role in communication, even today you can see a plethora of posters stuck up on street walls around you. Different kinds of posters containing varied information are stuck based on their locations. But the visual language is quite similar for most of those posters like bold blown up headers, fluorescent coloured papers, tight layouts etc. The large body of posters stuck on the walls form huge abstract decollages which happen through time by the act of nature or by chance, this inspired me to create this series. Growing up I've seen all kinds of posters in the streets providing discrete information from cinema posters, news headlines, death announcements to political announcement posters. I've never really paid attention to the information provided but have always admired those layouts. In this personal project of mine I managed to collect various kinds of posters stuck on the streets and create a collage to personify the graphic language of Chennai.
